The Harborage Inn was built in 1869 by Jeremiah P. Baker and sold
to Keyes Richards on 9/11/1886. It was later purchased by Harry Williams
in 1922 whom my grandfather remembers as he passed by on his way
to school. Mr. Williams was the inspiration behind the Harborage
becoming a guest house, as well as, the name Harborage Inn. The Kelly's
from Stoneham, MA purchased the inn in 1938 and during that period,
my grandfather's mother worked as a housekeeper for the Harborage.
My grandfather remembers some of the Harborage guests visiting his
residence as his mother entertained and befriended guests. The next
owner's were the Mathers Family from 1952-1959, and then Pauline & Walter
Shockey from 1959-1971 who hired my grandfather as a carpenter to
do repairs on the Harborage. When the Harborage came up for sale
in the Spring of 1971, my grandparents were delighted to purchase
this landmark on Townsend Ave. They operated the Inn from 1971-1999
until my wife, Emery and I ( Troy Chapman ), became the current innkeepers.
This luxurious Seaside Inn established the quality & comfort
the way a Maine Getaway should be. We take great pride in maintaining
these traditions & high standards in our family run business
the past 35 years. Come stay with the Inn that is often imitated
but can never be replicated for the ultimate Boothbay Harbor experience.
