Camden Hills State Park & Mt. Battie
camden-hills-trail2
Camden Hills State Park is a vast 5,700-acre park where visitors are treated to 30 miles of hiking trails, breathtaking views of surrounding hills and lakes, well-maintained and equipped campgrounds, and a large picnic area for family and friends. The view from the summit of Mount Battie is definitely worth the trek. Once at the summit you will get a full panoramic view of surrounding lakes, the beautiful wooded hillsides, and of course Camden Harbor and Penobscot Bay. By foot, the hike to Mount Battie will normally take up to two hours but you can opt to get to the top by car if you do not feel like the walk up. A fee is charged for the drive up the summit. During the fall season, it is a popular activity for the people to get to see the beautiful fall colors of the surrounding hillsides. Mount Megunticook, the highest peak on the Atlantic seaboard, is another good hiking destination, also with excellent views, although its summit is not as open as Mount Battie.

The Museum is located at the site of the old Sheepscot station in Alna, with mainline track running north from Cross Road, on the original roadbed.

Open to the public since 1961, the building is was entered on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. In December 2008, ownership and stewardhip responsiblitiies were transfered to the Lincoln County Historical Association. LCHA is glad to have the Damariscotta Historical Society and several Chapman and Hall family descendants working closely with us to care for and interpret this jewel of an historic house. Built in 1754 by housewright Nathaniel Chapman, of Ipswich, MA, the residence is not only the oldest building remaining in Damariscotta, but is also considered one of the oldest standing homes in the State of Maine. Chapman constructed the residence at the age of 51 and lived there until his death, at age 101, in 1804. The people who first lived in this house would have been subjects of the King of England because the house was built nearly twenty-five years before the Revolutionary War.

In 1677, Fort Charles, the first of three forts on the site was built. Extensive archaeological excavations have unearthed 14 foundations of 17th- and 18th-century structures and the officers' quarters for Fort William Henry and Fort Frederick. Edgecomb Potters Gallery
Edgecomb
In 1976, Richard and Chris Hilton began building a dream of making pottery in a one-room schoolhouse on the road to Boothbay Harbor. Thirty years later, Edgecomb Potters has a national brand recognition for a high caliber of work with an inventive spirit. In this era of mass-produced products made overseas, Richard and Chris continue to create porcelain pottery with their own clay and glazes in their Maine studio. Richard’s passion for glaze development has led him to be considered a national standard to watch as recognized by articles in Niche Magazine, Boston Globe, The Dallas Times, San Diego Union, Ceramics Monthly, American Style, Downeast, and other publications. In 2001, the purchase of a large vase by trade representatives from Taiwan for the president of their country was an honor for Richard Hilton, the chemist behind Edgecomb Potters’ glazes. In 2003, Edgecomb Potters was announced as a winner of one of America’s “Best of the Road” by Rand McNally Road Atlas.

Windjammer Days
windjammer
Come see the beautiful Windjammer's in Boothbay Harbor, Maine! This wonderful event celebrates and honors a time before there were planes, trains, and automobiles and sailing ships were the best way to travel the world or transport goods long distances. Windjammers were the grandest of the merchant ships from the era, enormous sailing boats with several large masts designed to carry massive amounts of cargo from one continent to another. For centuries, the Boothbay Harbor Region has been a center of American shipping and shipbuilding, its harbor graced by elegant Windjammers as well as other commercial pleasure ships.

Pemaquid Oyster Festival
Unknown
Pemaquid Oyster Festival is now in its 13th year as an annual celebration of the working waterfront and the Damariscotta River where the Pemaquid oyster is farmed. Last year over 12,000 oysters were served at the event, which benefits the Edward A. Myers Marine Conservation Fund. The celebration includes music, educational exhibits, boat rides, and lots of oysters harvested fresh from the Damariscotta River that morning. (There is also a menu with lots of choices other than oysters!) The event is free of charge and takes place from noon to dusk right on the shore of the Damariscotta River at historic Schooner Landing Restaurant and Marina on Main St. in Damariscotta and at near-by businesses.

VineGrapeSquare
All of us at Cellardoor Winery take pride in our wines and in making your visit here memorable. We are honored to be the caretakers of this very special place, a 68-acre, 200-year-old farm that has had only a handful of owners since its fields were first plowed. We restored the beautiful 1790s barn several years ago, and more recently we have completely restored the old farmhouse and built a state-of-the-art Winery across the road. Our expert winemaker is educated in all aspects of the art and science of winemaking and specializes in making wine in handcrafted batches. Sourcing our grapes from premier vineyards across the country and our blueberries locally, we proudly offer a broad selection of varietals to tempt every palate. Our wines range from crisp and dry, to velvety and robust, to delicately sweet. It is our goal to create the very best wines we can, and to offer you a winery experience that is rich and memorable.

Oyster River Winegrowers
oyster-river
In 2007, Brian Smith and his wife, Allie Willenbrink, purchased their 57 acre farm in Warren, where they have transformed the old barn into a winery, and have planted 3.5 acres of vines. Brian has been greatly inspired and influenced by the cool climate wines of Germany, Austria, and the Alsace region of France, and so, specializes in aromatic white wines. In the vineyard, Brian uses organic and biodynamic methods, which he believes creates the highest quality grapes, and therefore, high quality wine. He sees his work with the vines as equally important as his work with wine.

Pai Men Miyake
images
Pai Men Miyake opened in September, 2010 as Masa Miyake’s second restaurant in Portland. Meaning “100 noodles” in Japanese, the focus is on ramen with broths rich in pork, chicken, & vegetables. On the warmer days of summer there is also a myriad of more refreshing options such as sashimi soba & a variety of sushi rolls. Although a more casual affair, the food shows the same quality and creative characteristics as the acclaimed dishes from the original Food Factory Miyake.
